whiskins.com is run by the Whiskins channel (@whiskins on YouTube). This page says what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. Questions: leave a comment on any @whiskins Short.
What we collect
Visit statistics. We use Google Analytics 4 to see how many people visit, which pages they read and how they got here. It collects the pages you view, your device and browser, the site that sent you, and your rough location (country and city, worked out from your IP address, which Google Analytics doesn’t store). Ads and ad personalization are switched off.
Comments on our Shorts. The game runs on public comments on the @whiskins Shorts. Our server keeps a copy of those comments to count them. When a comment names a Whiskin or feeds one by number (like #18), we keep the comment’s ID, your YouTube handle and channel ID, the Short, the time, and the number and name. That’s how one Whiskin per account and first comment wins work.
Handles on Whiskin pages. When a Whiskin was made or named from your comment, its page shows your YouTube handle as plain text, with no link to your channel. If you delete the comment or the account, it comes off.
Page views. The site also counts page views itself, as plain numbers per page, without cookies.
The site doesn’t ask for your name, email or age. A name you type for a Whiskin only goes to your clipboard. A naming request goes to the admin with your handle and a link to the comment, and the admin approves every name.
Cookies
Google Analytics sets two cookies, _ga and _ga_JXYEMW67D7, that tell a returning visit from a new one. They last up to two years. Our hosting network (Cloudflare, through DigitalOcean) sets __cf_bm, a security cookie that tells people from bots, for 30 minutes. Your browser also keeps your cookie choice, if you made one.
In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, the analytics cookies are only set after you say OK. Anywhere, you can change it here:
Who else sees it
Google (Analytics), Supabase (where the comment data is stored) and DigitalOcean and Cloudflare (hosting) process data for us. Google may process it in the United States. We don’t sell any of it, and we don’t use it for ads.
Analytics data is kept for 14 months. Comment data is kept while the comment is up, and removed when the comment or the account is gone.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about your handle, ask us to correct it or delete it, or object to how we use it. Comment on any @whiskins Short and we’ll answer there. If you’re in the EU or the UK, you can also complain to your data protection authority.
